Earlier this month, Kimbra hit The Tivoli here in Brisbane in support of her latest album, Vows . Her dramatic stage presence and superb vocals combined with an incredibly tight band made for a pretty great show.
For me, it was a sprint to the finish, not only rubbing elbows with the other photographers in the crowded pit, but also trying to keep up with Kimbra as she moved around the stage. Just as the third song was underway, we were given the signal to exit. Unfortunately, I had just swapped a wide angle for a long lens, aiming for closer, detailed shots. No worries in the end as I got the ok to keep shooting from the back and sides.
What made this night extra special, however, was the chance to try out Nikon’s latest D4 DSLR body courtesy of good friend rexdexter. Although our time together was brief, I must say the D4 is quite a fine piece of machinery, particularly with low-light situations.
I shot about half the images here with the D4. The other half were with my D700. I was quite happy in particular with two images I shot from the very back of the venue, using a 2x teleconverter on my 70-200 lens. Even at F5.6 and given the lighting conditions, the D4 performed incredibly well.
I don’t have any side-by-side image comparisons, but see for yourself if you can match the image with the camera. I processed all images in LR4.
